Class Experience

Creative Conversations: Chat & Learn How to Make Jewelry
(Ages 12-16)
In this multi-day class, learners will flex their creative muscles by learning basic techniques to make necklaces, earrings, and bracelets!
This will also be a great opportunity to socialize while we make our jewelry. We will chat and play ice breaker games such as "Would You Rather?".

Class Schedule:
-Day 1: How to make a pair of earrings.
-Day 2: How to make a bracelet.
-Day 3: How to make a necklace.

Objectives:
Learn how to use basic jewelry making tools.
Learn how patterning and measuring are important steps to designing jewelry.
Learn/practice steps that can be replicated with other jewelry creations on their own.
Practice putting skills to use during class and afterwards.

**Because jewelry-making requires time and attention to detail, some learners may not finish
their design completely while in class. That is no problem, as I will demonstrate how to do
each step, including the last step to finish the jewelry item. That way, the student will know
what to do when they reach that point, even if it is after class.

The items we will be using a lot in class are:
Jewelry tools:
Chain Nose Pliers
Round Nose Pliers
Wire Cutters
Jump rings in various sizes (8mm, 4mm).
Lobster Clasps.
Cable Chains.
Beads or Stones.
Crimp Beads.
Earring Hooks.
Headpins and Eye Pins.
Beading Wire.

Below are some products I've found that will help your creative learner get started in the fun world of jewelry-making. These exact items are not required, but are to help you get an idea of what type of materials we will use in class.

CLASS RULES/MUTING:
We will go over class rules before we start our activities, so the learners know what to expect. In order to allow everyone to participate in a fair manner, I ask that learners raise their hand and wait to be called on to answer a question.
I also find that the best way to keep everyone on track is to ask learners to hold questions about the lesson until afterwards, when I will be glad to answer them.

I prefer to keep the learners unmuted to encourage full participation. However, as a parent, I understand that there are times when muting is necessary due to background noise that may be distracting to other learners. As the teacher, I may need to utilize the mute feature at times to help all learners to get the most out of class.

-----------------------------
SIBLINGS:
I am happy to welcome siblings into my class. In order for all learners to have a fair share in participating, all learners that wish to participate in class must be enrolled. However, once both are enrolled, siblings are welcome to share a screen if they like. To allow me to call on students by name, please rename the siblings in Zoom so I can see both names.

-----------------------------
CLASS CANCELLATIONS:
If a class has not met the minimum number of enrollments, it is subject to being canceled. I will send a message asking if you'd like a transfer to another date & time or full refund if the class is canceled. Automatic refunds are issued for no responses after original class start time.

I've spent several years creating my own jewelry. The photos used in the listing are NOT stock photos. They are photos of my own jewelry I've created. This will give you an idea of the style I look forward to sharing with the learners.
