This summer camp is a bundle of all five levels of my Harry Potter listening class. In this course, students will learn valuable listening skills while coloring a Harry Potter themed worksheet each day. As we listen to Harry Potter orchestral pieces from the movies, students will learn to distinguish different instruments, sounds, and musical textures. Each worksheet for the course will be a Harry Potter themed listening glyph and will progress in difficulty as the class develops. Listening...
Students will learn how to distinguish different musical textures and sounds and will be able to articulate and illustrate this through the coloring activity. Students will be able to develop self-expression in music and their own opinions and aural thought processes of what they hear. Concept Breakdown: Day One-forte/piano, allegro/adagio, vocalists/no vocalists, steady beat/no steady beat, brass/strings while listening to Harry's Wondrous World Day Two-students will expand on music concepts learned, now learning crescendo/decrescendo, stringendo/allargando, duple/triple meter, bass/soprano voices, solo/soli, specific brass/string instruments while re-listening to Harry's Wondrous World Day Three-same concepts as day two while listening to Hedwig's Theme Day Four-students will expand on music concepts learned, now learning woodwind/brass, bell kit (glockenspiel)/piano, trumpets/french horns, pesante/leggero, recurring music/not recurring music, tempo guisto/tempo rubato, arco/pizzicato music terms while listening to Hedwigs Theme Day Five-students will review all the concepts learned with proper terminology and listen to The Battle at Hogwarts Theme to discover and practice these music facts
I believe that all students should develop listening skills, whether you know how to play an instrument or not. There is so much to learn from active listening, but sometimes it is hard to retain students' attention. I know that I am equipped with the tools to hold students' attention while learning more about listening skills. Not only does incorporating coloring in learning allow for students to be actively engaged, but with guided questions, students will also be able to learn about listening in a fun way.
There is no homework required. If students do not get to finish their worksheet during class time, they will be asked to finish it on their own time after class.
The originally created Harry Potter themed listening glyphs will be provided upon enrollment of the class. Students will need to print each glyph every day. After each class, the new glyph will be shared in the classroom.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
2 hours 55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parental guidance is not necessary, however, if parents would like to learn how to listen and help guide active listening in their child's life, they are welcome to participate on the side as well.
