In this 55 minute creative coding class, students will learn about the winter tradition of building a person from snow, as well as other types of snow structures and will code their own talking snowman game in MIT-created program Scratch.
Class experience
In this lesson, students will begin by learning about the popular winter tradition of building a person out of snow and how this special form of sculpture has been used to create even more imaginative creatures. Students will code their own Snowman to answer fun questions with random replies in Scratch, a block-based programming language developed at MIT. This class has been designed for students ages 6-10 with any level of coding experience - all are welcome! Students will learn: - How to...
After completing this class, students will be comfortable coding and creating projects with Scratch. Even more importantly, they will have gained an understanding of foundational coding concepts including sequencing, loops, conditional statements, and variables. At Cypher, our goal is to help students become future-ready, and we know that these core skills will serve our students for the rest of their lives.
Your student will need: - Access to a laptop or desktop computer with Zoom installed and screen-sharing enabled - An internet connection of 3mbs+ - A working speaker, microphone and webcam - all Windows and Mac operating systems of the past five years are supported Note: iPads are not compatible with this class. Please make sure an adult is on hand for the first five minutes of class to help set-up and tackle troubleshooting.
