1 in-class hoursClass Experience
Students in this class will learn from a professional magician how to perform three mind-blowing card tricks based on one of the greatest secrets behind literally thousands of card tricks. More important, that one secret will inspire them to tap into their creative abilities and invent their own card tricks with themes and surprise endings limited only by their imaginations. I’ll encourage students to brainstorm ideas with their classmates and wrap up with the four rules of performing any magic trick. All students will receive an unlisted YouTube link to a follow-up video tutorial so they can review in the future what they learned during class. Class Outline: 1. Introductions 2. Card basics: holding, shuffling, and cutting a deck 3. Performance of tricks taught 4. Explanation 5. Thoughts on performance and creativity 6. Brainstorm 7. Four rules of magic
Learning Goals
Students who do well in my classes pay close attention during the sessions and make time to practice as frequently as possible outside of class. Repeated practice and rehearsal, even for the easiest tricks, develops muscle memory and thus frees the mind to focus on the performance. As I’ve told many students over the years, you get out of magic what you put into it. That might sound cliché, but it’s true.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I’m a professional magician, magic teacher, writer, and content creator in San Diego, California, and consider teaching the art and science of magic one of my all-time favorite activities.
As a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM), Society of American Magicians (SAM), and Academy of Magical Arts (AMA), I’ve taught magic to children and adults for more than 35 years and performed thousands of close-up and stand-up magic shows in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and California.
With a B.A. in professional writing and minors in communications and management, I’ve published instructional articles in international magic journals and worked on the East Coast in the marketing-communications departments of two companies for about 12 years before moving to San Diego and starting my magic business, recently focusing more on teaching and creating content than on performing.
My teaching philosophy is simple: Magic is about the performer and his or her rapport with the audience, not about the tricks themselves. It takes some magic enthusiasts years to understand that one simple truth, but I strive to help my students learn and remember it from the very beginning.
To learn more about me, my background, and my views on teaching magic, please read my full Outschool profile or watch my introductory video. In the mean time, I can’t wait to meet and teach the child in your life.
