If the student wants to create their own concept illustrations, this is to be done outside of class time and will be discussed during class time.Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 4
This course was designed for younger students (1st - 4th grade) who love story-telling but are still learning the mechanics of writing. Class Experience In this 8-class One-on-One course, the student will learn the writing process of story writing and watch as a children's picture book is created in a real publishing forum (Blurb.com). Each class will build on the previous class topics, making attendance important. We will review the importance of the writing process: Brainstorming, Preparing, Drafting, Revising, and Proofreading. This course is for students wanting to understand how to take ideas out of one's mind and down on paper (in a document). Ms. April will begin a story, in her publishing software, setting the stage for the student to take the main character on a one of a kind adventure. The will build off the last addition to the story, making this mashup completely organic. This concept is based on collaborative practices taking a student's ability to fluently explain what they mean, see, and feel to then see it placed in sentence form. The more a student works on this practice, the better their understanding of writing becomes. Each class will be the building of a unique story while discussing the elements of writing that make the books they read their primary choice. By the end of this course, the student(parents) will have a physical copy of their creation in the form of a pdf.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of the six traits of writing while taking part in creating a one of a kind children’s book.
