I am a certified teacher in various subjects, but before I was a teacher, I was a theater minor and heavily involved in the dance music world. I was and still very much involved in music and creative arts. I have danced my entire life, helped open a community dance studio and teach dance there. I have danced and trained in all styles, including ballroom; in addition, I taught dance for many years. I was also in an auditioned group that sang at Carnegie Hall, NYC twice. I now teach various subjects, including literature and writing arts, but I am very much still influenced and involved in this world and I can say that creative arts has played a major role in my life and being able to push myself to be better and more creative in life. This class is a fun online Creative Arts Camp to get students off the video games, or out of their schoolwork for a bit, and allow them to dive into some creative arts. We will cover various forms of arts including music, singing, writing songs, dance, journaling, writing songs, poetry, and more. This camp is mainly about creative arts and how they can help with many things in life, but more than anything I want to push them to dig deep and get creative. Class 1 - We will discuss how creative arts can help in everyday life, from making you more creative, to actually helping your grades improve. - Then we will cover major methods of creative arts, and things we can do that appeal to all 5 senses we use. When we use types of creative arts, we can learn and grow in ways we never knew possible. - We will discuss different types of creative arts including: music, singing, writing songs, dance, journaling, writing songs, poetry, and more. Students can share what method they find the most valuable to them and why. - At the end of class, I will give students a fun activity to do at home. They will share these in the next class. I will also have them complete one activity that relates to all 5 senses. This might get them out of the house and out of their normal routine a bit. Weekly Activity: They will choose an activity to do that will take them all week. This will be their large assignment but I want them to have all week to work on it. They will do one of the following things: 1. Write a short song. 2. Write a poem. 3. Draw or paint a picture that means something to them. Be as creative as they want. 4. Create a short (1-2 min) dance routine to a song that means something to them. 5. Create a collage of images and pictures that describes who they are. 6. Choose something else creative to do and share in the final class. **I expect everyone to do something to share in the final class.** Class 2 - We will break down a poem and a song in class. We will discuss why the person wrote each of them and talk about the meanings behind them. - I will also show them a piece of art. I will them have them journal and write how they see it, why it was painted, the meaning to it. We will discuss and share these in class if they want to share. - Lastly, we will listen to a song, and they will again write down their response to it. We will share these in class if they want to share. Daily Activity #1: They will be tasked with going on a creative arts scavenger hunt. This will be online, outside, and around the house. You might even need to go out into the town to find some stuff. We will share the results of these in the final class. Take a picture with the topic and put them in a document or collage, or collect the actual item if you can. Daily Activity #2: They will take a right or left brain survey. We will share which they are in the next class. Class 3 - This class will be filled with discussion and students presenting their special projects. - We will end with a fun trivia game on creative arts and things we have discussed. We will also show and discuss the scavenger hunt they went on. **Be prepared to show these or perform them in class and share why you chose this method and why it means something to you. I want everyone doing something. This is a safe place for your art and creativity to grow and you to share it with everyone else.**
