Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello wonderful Outschool families!
I'm Teacher Emily and I've been working in the classroom for over 10 years developing hands-on, engaging lessons and building connections with my students. I received my K-6 teaching credential (in all subjects) and Master's in Curriculum and Instruction in 2013. I have worked in public and private schools, and also a homeschool resource center.
In addition to teaching kids, I coach parents in developing a learning environment at home that fosters self-direction, a love of learning, and family connection. You can learn more about my coaching and teaching business at: https://educatoremily.com/
At Outschool, you can expect to see a wide variety of classes from me that help nurture the whole child. I am passionate about teaching hands-on STEAM lessons, making math accessible to kids, building social and emotional skills, and providing a space for children to explore their interests.
At the heart of my teaching philosophy is the belief that to build self-confident, happy, and excited-to-learn children, we must first meet each child where they are and allow them to explore their own ideas about how to approach a problem or learn a new concept. Children are born excited to learn and it is our most vital role as adults and educators to nurture that.
I live in Portland, Oregon with my husband and two sons. You'll often find us exploring nature, being silly, having dance parties, and reveling in the joy of learning.
