Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Let's spend an hour checking out pictures and learning about creation myths that different cultures have come up with and believed throughout time. We'll find out the basics about African, Native North American, Norse, Polynesian, Sumerian, Hindu, and Chinese creation myths, to name but a few!

Hopefully, we'll spark an interest in everyone and they'll want to run right out and gather all the mythology books the library has to offer!

A basic understanding of mythology and what that means would be helpful. Visual aids will be child-friendly.

Meaningful participation is encouraged, though no one will be put on the spot to answer or contribute.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
All creation myths will be presented as myths, not truth as presented in religion. In addition, in going over the Christian creation myth, the Cain and Abel story is shown in a video clip, which does depict violence and blood. Those with particularly sensitive children are encouraged to sit in. Further, please be advised the the term "pleasure himself" comes up once in a video about one of the Egyptian creation myths. In another, the word "genitals" is mentioned as something one of the gods gave the first humans in order to beget more humans.
