Creating With Clay: Preschool & Kindy Fun!

I'm a big fan of messy play as it provides so much wonderful sensory input! Little learners get busy with their hands and engage all of their senses in this creative crafting class. Each week we shape new pieces using types of clay.

Class Experience

Join us for some super fun messy play the clay way! This is a sensory rich class for preschool and kindergarten kiddos. We read stories, learn more about nature and animals and each week we create a new clay creation using our own two hands!

Students will follow step-by-step instructions as they sculpt a new project each week. They will learn traditional sculpting techniques like coil, slab, pinch and score-and-weld. Students will learn how to join pieces, add details, how to rehydrate clay and how to add a sheen.

As we sculpt, students learn new facts about that week's theme and they have a chance to share their knowledge with the class. Some weeks we will be using modeling clay and others we'll be using air dry clay.

Each week a materials list is posted on the Classroom page. Please remember to check the list and make sure your child comes to class with all of the necessary supplies.

-----

- At the start of class we spend a few minutes greeting each other and then we discuss the animal of the week. This is a great time for students to share what they know about the topic.

- We then read a short story about that week's theme.

- Next, we review the materials list and make sure everyone has what they need.

- Students follow step-by-step instructions as they follow along with me on my craft camera.

- As we create, I share interesting facts and ask questions of the students, discussion style.

- As we wrap up class I remind students what we'll be making and learning about the following week and we review the materials list for the next week.
