Class Experience

Students will follow step-by-step instructions as they sculpt a new nature inspired project each week. They will learn traditional sculpting techniques like coil, slab, pinch and score-and-weld. Students will learn how to join pieces, add details, how to rehydrate clay and how to add a sheen.

As we sculpt our creations, students learn new facts about nature and they have a chance to share their knowledge with the class.

Each week a materials list is posted on the Classroom page. Please remember to check the list and make sure your child comes to class with all of the necessary supplies.

-----

- At the start of class we spend a few minutes greeting each other and then we discuss the project, and topic, of the week. This is a great time for students to share what they already know about our topic.

- We then read a short story about that week's topic.

- Next, we review the materials list and make sure everyone has what they need.

- Students follow step-by-step instructions as they follow along with me on my craft camera.

- As we create, I share interesting facts and ask questions of the students, discussion style.

- As we wrap a class I remind students what we'll be making and learning about the following week and we review the materials list for the next week.
