In this one time class homeschool learners will how to create a low cost yet high quality literary magazine and yearbook. By the end of class learners will be inspired and informed enough to create their own yearbooks. This class is for homeschool learners who want to start a homeschool yearbook or literary magazine. Learners will learn how to • Locate great stories that are memorable for their yearbooks and literary magazines. • Become aware of software to be used for hardcopy and digital publications. • Create unifying themes, graphics, pictures and photographs for the yearbook • Motivate others to help create the publication. • Make a calendar of action-tasks to complete before publication A publishing calendar and a list of resources will be provided to all learners. Learning Schedule: Goal: By the end of class learners will know how to create their own homeschool magazines and/or literary yearbooks. Icebreaker and introductions: 5 minutes Types of homeschool yearbooks 5 minutes Determining the purpose of your yearbook- 5 minutes Layout considerations: software to be used- 5 minutes Graphics, photographs and picture considerations – 5 minutes Calendar for creation- 5 minutes Question and answer: 15 minutes Benefits of a homeschool yearbook: • It’s a great way to document a learner’s learning. • A homeschool yearbook is a fabulous and meaningful keepsake. • It will capture meaningful moments with homeschool friends. • A place for learners to be published and read by others. The instructor has previously served as the faculty advisor/ editor for her local homeschool support group’s yearbook and literary magazine for over ten years.

Cheryl R. Carter is a busy homeschooling mother, author, speaker and a college professor with a passion to help others write well. She teaches English and Creative Writing classes and has written broadly on a variety of subjects.. She is the author of several books including Organize Your Life, Chasing God and the Kids Too, Essential Writing Skills for the College Bound Student, Inspire the Writer in Your Child and Organize Your AD/HD Child.
In addition to writing fiction and poetry in her spare time, she blogs regularly on issues of clarity in written communication and the family. She has a BA in English Literature and a MFA in Creative Writing and has done graduate study in Special Education. She has a Certificate in College Admission from Columbia University. She has also written literary guides and won academic awards for her writing. Her books have been translated into Hebrew, German, Czech and Polish are selling well internationally. Carter's curriculum and writing classes focus on equipping students with the vital skills for lifetime communication success. Her curriculum and classes are marked by a sense of depth yet simplicity that nurture a love of writing in students.
