Projects
1 hour per week. As the final task at the end of the class, students will use a provided text document that describes the fantasy world of Aetheria. Their challenge is to create a detailed map of Aetheria using Inkarnate, incorporating the important locations, landmarks, and geographical features mentioned in the document. Once completed, they will export their map and upload it to the class collaboration board for showcase and review.
Assessment
I will encourage the student to self-evaluate their work, complemented by my positive feedback to help them recognize their achievements and areas for improvement.

Beginner Level
Embark on a creative journey in this pre-recorded, self-paced course where students will delve into the art of map-making using Inkarnate, an intuitive online tool that allows their imaginative landscapes to come to life!

What Will Be Taught?
In this engaging course, students will learn the fundamentals of Inkarnate and how to create their own unique maps. Using a step-by-step interactive lesson, they will explore key features such as layering, using stamps for different terrains, and labeling their creations. By the end of the course, each student will design a captivating map that reflects their imagination.

- Painting textures
- Titles and layers
- Final challenge - Create a map for a fantasy world described in a text document

Class Structure:
The course will be delivered using Nearpod, allowing for interactive and supportive learning. 

Teaching Style:
My teaching style encourages creativity and helps students express their ideas in a calm and inviting atmosphere. Throughout the course, students will engage with video demonstrations, follow prompts for hands-on practice, and have opportunities to reflect on their work and share feedback with me. This approach ensures that your child will not only learn valuable map-making skills but also gain confidence in their creative abilities!

Lesson 1:
Introduction to Inkarnate: Sign up and explore features.
 Using a Nearpod lesson, students will:
- Sign up for Inkarnate and explore its features. 
Lesson 2:
Drawing Land: Create land masses and coastlines.
 Using a Nearpod lesson, students will:
- Use the Mask Tool to design landmasses. 
Lesson 3:
Rivers and Lakes: Place realistic water features.
 Using a Nearpod lesson, students will:
- Learn to draw rivers and lakes in Inkarnate.
- Create geologically accurate water features. 
Lesson 4:
Using Stamps: Utilize stamps for mountains, forests, and cities.
 Using a Nearpod lesson, students will:
- Utilize core stamps in Inkarnate (free version).
- Explore stamp placement (e.g., mountains near forests).

Learning Needs
Inkarnate is excellent for nurturing creativity and self-expression in children with neurodiverse needs. Its intuitive design helps to visualize ideas, making concepts easier to understand while building confidence and sparking imagination.
Parental Guidance
In this class, we will use Inkarnate, an online map-making tool that allows students to create and tell stories. This tool features fantasy themes, such as mythical creatures and magical landscapes, but contains no explicit content. Inkarnate is intended for users aged 13 and older, and when students create a free account, they will be asked to confirm their age. Pre-Requisites
As long as the student feels comfortable navigating a website and using a mouse/trackpad, they'll be able to quickly grasp the basics of Inkarnate.
Supply List
Device: A laptop, tablet, or desktop computer with internet access.
Inkarnate Account: A free account on Inkarnate (please set this up before the session).
Drawing Supplies (Optional): Pencil and paper for sketching ideas or planning before using Inkarnate.
Notebook: For taking notes and jotting down ideas or feedback.
