Class Experience

Focusing on classes that children have enjoyed most in the past, on day one we will find our own internal happiness in Happy Heart Yoga, on day two students will revel in their internal and external balance in I Can Balance Yoga, and on our third and final day, we will Create Our Own Adventure by combining all of the students' favorite yoga animals, poses, and/or songs and dances from the first two days' classes. As always, each class will contain butterfly breaths to practice flying up to the sky and warming up, as well as heart balloon breaths to practice slowing down our breath to match the rhythm of our body, mind, and spirit. Feel free to look through prior class descriptions if your child has not yet joined us for a yoga sequence, and we look forward to welcoming back old students and meeting new ones soon!

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Please convey the following information to your child: It is important in yoga that you listen to your body, do only what feels safe to you, and respect your body's limits on any given day. Asanas, or yoga postures, mean postures easily held. If it’s too hard or if it hurts, you can stop! You may rest at any time during the class (and you will be provided a yoga pose as an example to do so). In addition, please make sure that you have an open workout space, slip proof socks or bare feet, and a yoga surface that is slip resistant. Finally, if you are wearing a skirt, it is necessary to wear shorts or leggings underneath to make sure that we only see appropriate body parts during our yoga moves and in our class. *Thanks in advance for working as a team to ensure the safety and well being of your children!*
Supply List
A yoga mat or any slip resistant surface is fine (as long as you are not slipping around during balancing poses) and a stuffed animal or class of the day's themed toy. An announcement will be given to suggest what will be best to bring to the next class in the prior day's class! For day one, a stuffed animal that you like (or love) will be perfect!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been teaching children's yoga and swimming lessons for two years, and my background includes two years overseas in a Montessori style environment, so that combined with the standard 200 hour RYS (registered yoga school) teacher training makes my yoga philosophy pretty simple: as long as they are on the mat, they are doing yoga. This is especially useful for situations that are outside of the norm (i.e. the world we are currently living in) and teaching yoga to a young age demographic. In addition, I like to connect with the students and involve them in the class creation, so I often ask children to suggest additional poses with their favorite animals, etc. Finally, I speak Spanish and am happy to help out with translations as necessary, here and there throughout a class.
