Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Students will explore what GIMP software can do for photo editing as well as learning to use Libre Office to create the calendar. These skills will be transferable to future projects.
Learners will be working independently on their own project and we will use Google Jamboard to brainstorm solutions for every week's challenge. I estimate 1-3 hours per week of work to complete the course.
A computer with internet access.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Learners will need some type of word processing software. We recommend Libre Office because it is free. Canva, FireAlpaca, Procreate (paid drawing software) and GIMP may also be helpful. They are OPTIONAL. Find details about each in the "resources" section. Your teacher will be able to make suggestions for software based on your needs and goals. Ensure you have an adult assist in downloading software. Be sure to unselect additional software bundled in the installation such as Avast.
Learners should be comfortable using their computers.

Teacher will be demonstrating using Gimp and Libre Office. You can use whatever you have at home; your teacher will troubleshoot any problems with you.
These are Open Source, Free software requiring NO signup and NO online cloud hosting of private photos and data. If you have an older computer, you can download an earlier version of Gimp that will work with older computers. You can be on a Mac/Apple, a Windows or a Linux computer. This allows for students with limited internet to work on their project unlike using Google Suite or other cloud based programs.
This approach to this project preserves student safety and teaches them to use tools that don't track them.
