Description
Class Experience
••• Please note learners must have a touchscreen tablet with the free “Scratch Jr.” app downloaded before class starts ••• Does your child love Minecraft? Do they have a preference for building toys like Lego, magnet tiles or marble runs? This is the perfect class to get young builders interested in the creative world of coding. In this one-time introductory class learners will be introduced to the concept of computer coding. We will use basic functions to build a fun project in an app...
Students will learn * the general concept of coding * how to start a project using the Scratch Jr. app. * how to add characters and make them move * simple sequencing concepts and logical thinking
Optional: A work sheet will be available to print after class as a way to review some coding concepts with your child.
• Each child will need a touchscreen tablet (iPad, Chromebook, Google / Android tablet) with the “Scratch Jr.” app downloaded onto it. • Learners will need a seperate screen (computer or laptop) to watch the class on zoom. How to download: Just search “Scratch Jr” on the App Store, Google Play or wherever you get apps. Download to your device. It’s easy and free! Feel free to contact me if you need help. ( do not download “Scratch”, which is for an older age group) Scratch Jr is a collaboration between the DevTech Research Group at Tufts University, the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab, and the Playful Invention Company.
