Class Experience

This class will provide an opportunity for the students to think outside of the box to complete a visual art activity. Students will also be working on their fine motor skills. **Please note this is not an instructional class to teach specific artistic skills, this is more for students to use their imaginations and foster creativity (any skill level is accepted and celebrated). To start this class the students will be provided with a shape that they will create artwork with. They will be given instructions as to what the shape cannot be to avoid the obvious art outcome. The students will then be provided time to complete their artwork while in class. They will also be encouraged to discuss their creations as they work. In the last 5 to 10 minutes of the class the students will be able to share their creation with the class.
Each week the students will be provided with a new shape which will allow for weeks of different creations. The class will go beyond the weeks listed below as new shapes are introduced in upcoming weeks.

Week of July 4th: Students will be provided with a shape to create a piece of art with. I will show them an example of art that this shape can become. They will then be instructed to come up with a new item this shape could become to create their art. Students will be challenged to broaden their horizons and provide a new perspective to creating art while nurturing their creative side. They will also have the opportunity to see different perspectives from their classmates in how each of them potentially develops a different piece of art in using the same shape.

Week of July 11th: Students will be provided with a new shape to create a piece of art with.

Week of July 18th: Students will be provided with a new shape to create a piece of art with.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello my name is Julie and I am from Toronto, Ontario in Canada. I have had many passions throughout my life varying from academic to extra-curricular activities. Teaching has always been my passion from a very young age. I started working with children 20 years ago as a young teen through babysitting for family and friends in our neighbourhood and still enjoy working with children to date. In my ample experience in working with children and raising my own there is no denying that everyone is unique in their skills and abilities and at any given moment in life there is an opportunity for a teachable moment.

Currently I am teaching ESL online to individuals ranging from young children to older adulthood at varying levels of English skills and abilities. I make developmental observations, document and give appropriate feedback regarding their strengths and weaknesses as well as provide them with suggestions for improvements and practice activities.

Most of my previous teaching experiences are working with young children ranging from birth to 12 years of age. My role and responsibilities included planning and delivery of inclusive play-based learning programs as well as teaching school curriculum in all subjects in following my local government appointed curriculum regulations. Some of my other passions include cooking and baking. I have always included my children and extended family members in cooking, baking and decorating with me and have recently been providing these same experiences for my friends children individually and in groups.

My teaching philosophy focuses on student success through an innovative, safe and inclusive learning environment where they will be encouraged to pursue their passions. Student’s academic and personal excellence will be promoted through empowerment, self-motivation, creativity and co-operation. I rely on my strong sense of community and truly value their involvement to attribute to success.

I welcome the opportunity to work with your children. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
