Create "Rosie the Sweetheart Dragon" – Valentine Polymer Clay Art Sculpting Class

Join this fun and creative sculpting class where you'll learn step-by-step how to craft "Rosie the Sweetheart Dragon," an adorable miniature perfect for Valentine’s Day! Using detailed camera angles, you'll see every step clearly as we condition, cut, roll, and form the pieces of our dragon. Together, we'll assemble the body parts and prepare them for baking after the class.

You’ll also have the chance to personalize your dragon with unique touches! For example, the instructor will demonstrate adding heart shapes using a mini cookie cutter. This class features a special design where the dragon lays on its back, showing its belly, which makes it ideal for holding a small object of your choice.

While the instructor uses polymer clay, students are welcome to use any sculpting medium they prefer. Whether you're new to sculpting or have experience, this class is a great way to celebrate creativity and Valentine’s Day with a one-of-a-kind project!

Supplies:
Sculpting Medium (any brand/type you prefer. I like to use Sculpey III Polymer Clay, which is what I used in the sample image).
Basic Sculpting tools, toothpick, smoothing tool, dotting tool or end of small paintbrush (for eye sockets)
A cutting tool (clay knife, or anything that you are comfortable with using)
A non stick surface to work on
Black glass beads (4mm works well) or black clay for eyes.
Minimum of 2 clay colors
Optional: Miniature heart shaped cookie/dough cutter

**Polymer clay requires baking according to the package direction. (Generally ~275 °F, depending on your brand of clay). You will bake after class. Parental help is necessary.

*Ms. Lori (she/her)

B.F.A in Fashion Design
A.A.S in Illustration/Art History
A.A.S in Graphic Design

Hi there! I'm Lori—a Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.) graduate with over 30 years of experience in the design industry. My journey spans from fashion illustration, pattern making, and garment construction to designing full storyboards for buyers. I’ve also tutored aspiring fashion designers in fashion illustration, helping them build professional portfolios for industry interviews.

While my current profession is in graphic design, fashion illustration remains my creative escape from the digital world. I believe that mastering the fundamentals of design unlocks endless possibilities, allowing you to bring your creative visions to life.

When I'm not sketching or designing, you’ll find me spending time with my furry little beasts—because animals are another passion of mine!

Ready to explore the world of fashion design and illustration? Let’s create something amazing together!

I also have a strong background in technology integration and cybersecurity.

In addition to K-12 education, I’ve taught photography, film, video, and animation at Marquette University, where I also ran the Multimedia Technology Lab for over five years. My passion for education and technology led me to earn a Master’s degree in Educational Technology, and I’m currently enrolled in an Information Technology graduate program. I’m also just 8 credits away from completing a graduate degree in Special Education.

My approach to learning is a mix of structure and flexibility—giving students the tools they need while encouraging independence, problem-solving, and self-advocacy. I enjoy incorporating technology, hands-on activities, and real-world applications to make learning meaningful and engaging.

Outside of teaching, I’m passionate about photography and travel, and I have a house full of rescue dogs who take their job as my personal “security team” very seriously. Looking forward to connecting!
