Class Experience

In this 8-week course, students will practice a variety of fundamental drawing skills! Beginners are welcome! All that is required is patience and the desire to draw!

During this course, we will explore one and two-point drawings and practice blending, layering and shading to create a simple still-life drawing. From there we will create a drawing of a dog's eye using graphite pencil and then a cat eye using colored pencil, so that both mediums can be explored. We will finish the course with a colored pencil drawing of a bee! Students may pick and choose which lessons they are most interested in attending, however, I do suggest attending all of the lessons to really get the most out of this course!

While I will be using professional-grade colored pencils, it certainly is not required of your child to buy these pencils in order to take this class. Any set will do, however, I have linked a set in the supplies list that has a good variety of colors that will be very useful when completing the dog eye and bee drawings. Please feel free to reach out with any questions regarding this, but please don't worry too much about this part. The goal is just to practice out blending with colored pencil, so if the colors aren't an exact match, that is not a big deal.

The lessons are scheduled for 1 hour and 15 minutes to make sure we have at least one hour every class to draw. We will create as many details as we can in the allowed time, but if students wish to add more realistic features after the end of the lessons, they are welcome to do so! My teaching style is very relaxed, as I don't want anyone to feel pressure while drawing. We will make sure we keep a good pace while drawing, but will make sure no one feels rushed.

Some drawings throughout this course will be completed in one lesson, while others, like the bee drawing, will be completed over the course of two lessons (with some drawing after the lessons if they wish to add more details).

As a professional Artist with 10 years of experience, I am excited to draw alongside your child and to help them improve their drawing skills, with the goal that they will become more confident with their artistic abilities! I believe that every person has the ability to create beautiful art, and kids especially have an eye for creating beautiful works of art.

I can't wait to see what beautiful art your child will create in this course!
