At Wandering Pencil, I guide beginners on how to start doodle art, sketch, and draw in fun ways. I explore mindful drawing and doodling because it teaches kids a variety of calming mindfulness, breath, art, and hand movement activities that help improve their focus and their overall wellbeing. My courses are usually aimed at complete beginners to drawing or anyone looking to explore a mindfulness practice in a different way. I provide a simple, step-by-step guide to drawing and doodling techniques. These techniques are mostly mindful drawing exercises that help people relax their minds, build creativity and connect to life. My students go from beginners to pro after learning how to doodle, sketch and draw manga-style anime characters in my classes.
Some students will not finish, and this is totally fine. In this class, it is more about making the most of the moment. If they choose, they can work on it after class and post it to the classroom.
Sketchbook Journal or paper A pencil or markers Colors like crayons or pencils Tablets & Stylus are also welcome (if pictures are viewable)
There is no grade or judgment in the class. I ask that each student respect each other's time and input. The main objective is the draw until the timer is complete with compassion and without judgment. All levels are welcome, but some experience with drawing may help the experience in the classroom. I will give feedback and updates to students and parents periodically throughout the course.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
You may want to discuss privacy issues ahead of class. I hope that students will share and be proud of what they create. While taking this class, if you find that your students can not think of good things to say about themselves, gently drop in suggestions. Please let me know of any accommodations I can do ahead of time for your students. If you suspect your student is in any crisis, please speak with their physician or seek help from a counselor.
