What's included
8 live meetings
8 in-class hoursHomework
2-4 hours per week. This class will have both a reading and art assignment due every week. The reading load will be greater than 50 pages a week with some variation for chapter sizes and print differences. The artists personal preference will dictate the types of materials used. I am trained in several mediums.Class Experience
This class will be a literature and art exploration class! We are going to read Dragons of Autumn Twilight and use it as an inspiration to create works of art!. We are also going to use it with intentional influence to practice several different art topics (listed below). This class will help learners begin to find their voice by using examples presented in this novel. This will be the first class in a series that will follow the main continuity of Dragonlance Novels published by Wizards of the Coast. This book contains approximately 450 pages so the reading workload will be a little more than 50 pages a week. We will discuss the contents of the reading during the next class. These discussions will be around half of the class session. The next half will be artistic instruction (composition, perspective, character, anatomy). The last 15 minutes of class will be used to go over the weeks assignment and breakout for any questions comments or concerns. The art that will be completed during this class will be based entirely on each students current ability level. These learners require zero art experience. This class will begin at the same place for everyone. The pieces that we create do not necessarily have to be set in the same world or storyline as the novel we are analyzing and students are encouraged to explore ideas. The breakdown that follows is for the art sections. The reading will begin before class. The listing format for topics covered is standardized as Week#, followed by page number to have read before class; followed by art topic.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Academy Of Art University
I am an art teacher, writing enthusiast, gamer, reader, and hobbyist. I try to teach in a comprehensive and broad way. I teach that nothing happens in isolation and I want my students to understand the connections behind things. I teach writing, art, and Soft skills using games, books, and pop-culture as a scaffold.
I have experience teaching at both the high school and middle school level. I graduated with a BFA in Art Education from Academy of Art University in San Francisco. I began teaching after a 20 year career in electronic repair. This career in technology and automation that started in the military (Navy) and ended with a multinational company responsible for automation in the food industry. I have a varied background in both tech, art, and writing. I approach all learning with excitement and openness.
I think that instilling a love of learning is one of the most important things we can do for our children and young adults. The value of knowing can not be understated. I think a person who has been taught how to learn has a very substantial leg up on a person who has been told what to know.
I want to teach my learners to lead in the coming years. I think this requires the ability to see the world as it truly is, but also as we wish it to be. People who are motivated to fix the problems we are all facing will need to think outside the box. They will also need interdisciplinary thinking, because these problems are giant in scale. I want the next generation of adults to be artist/scholars. I want us to reach for the ideals we have claimed throughout human history and I want to do that one class at a time.
