We’re on vacation. As we drive up to our hotel, we notice it is made of building bricks. We’re told that in order to enter the hotel, we must find the building brick challenges and complete them before time runs out! This is just one of the scenarios we will encounter. Each week, the scenarios and building challenges change, so feel free to sign up for this class more than once. In this class, we will work together to find the building brick challenges. These challenges will be TIMED. Learners will work against the clock to see if they can build each object given in the short amount of time allotted. Each object will have a different amount of time allotted (1-4 mins). Learners will use creative and abstract thinking, trial and error, and problem solving to build each object. They will have to make decisions about the size of their build and the number of details to add in order to finish within the time limit. Once the timer goes off, they will share their work with the rest of the class. There is a twist…each time we complete a challenge, we will be given a secret letter. Learners will need to write down the secret letters. At the end of the escape room, learners will have to unscramble the secret letters to figure out the mystery word. Come join the fun! The scenarios and building challenges change weekly, so feel free to sign up for this class more than once. *There is no specific amount or type of building bricks, blocks, or other building toys required. Come with what you have and let’s have some fun building together! *Please make sure your learner knows how to find and use the Mute/Unmute button. There are times when a learner’s background is noisy. Their mic will be muted by the teacher so the class and the learning and thinking processes are not disrupted. Your learner will then have to unmute their mic in order to talk. Zoom will not allow teachers to unmute mics anymore. *Each learner must be registered to attend the class; however, siblings/friends can share a screen to participate in the class. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. LEGO® is a trademark of the LEGO Group of companies which does not sponsor, authorize, or endorse this class.
Learning Goals
Skills learners will be developing include: creative and abstract thinking, trial and error, problem solving, decision making, communication skills, public speaking, working within a time constraint, critical thinking, and taking turns.
