Create Amazing Videos for Youtube & Other Social Media Apps-FLEX (14-18 Yrs.)
What's included
Homework
2-4 hours per week. Learners will be presented with an “Assignment” after each video lesson (twice a week for 4-week courses), and encouraged to take screenshots twice a week to upload as a comment under the “Here’s My Work” post. Learners will share their final video production with teacher, so I may give them pointers and encouragement, as well as help them when/if it is needed. They will also be encouraged to share their video during the last week of class specifically with the class, but this is not a requirement. Learners may want to take what they have learned each week and practice it outside of class (ie.: upload additional photos to their folder, practice adding in pictures, backgrounds, and such to our practice video, etc.). Teacher will add additional resources to the Outschool Classroom as needed, or for those students who just want more practice with the tools & application.Grading
includedClass Experience
Creating videos has become a necessity, and as such, learning these skills early on, can help students in their future endeavors! Come & learn the easiest ways and coolest tools to create amazing videos which can help you in your own personal life, for school projects, posting to social media, or even for a future business venture! *This is an online, FLEX class with no live class, & it can be joined at any time during the 4 weeks! In this FLEX class, learners will have 2 videos posted each week (one on Monday & one on Wednesday). These videos are a walk-through and offer a true step-by-step explanation of each area covered, as well as many tips, tricks, and computer shortcuts the student may use when video creating. For this FLEX class, learners will want to check in the Outschool Classroom each week, watch the videos, look at the step-by-step directions posted, and complete the "assignment" (which will be creating another portion of their individual video), take a screen shot of their work & upload it to the classroom. There will also be ample, weekly interactive opportunities, including games, polls, and more to help learners become more engaged with the video-creating, learning process. Written, step-by-step instructions will also be posted at the same time, along with an explanation of the “assignment” for each video. There will be a ‘Questions Here’ post twice a week where learners may post any questions for the video, instructions, or assignments. Week 1 For our first class, we will take a look at WeVideo & be introduced to this video creation application. Students will see a variety of examples of how we can create with this application. Students will create a Log In for this app & then create a folder for our class, and begin learning how to find & download images from their computer or devices, adding them to this new folder. These images will be used as we learn these new video-creation techniques and skills. *Learners are encouraged to have several of their family or friends’ pictures available for this class, however, if these are not readily available, we will simply find “free” images on the internet during our second class to use while learning this technique. Areas of Focus: Create a folder on the computer & download/copy pictures to it. During the second video, students will discover several tools using the WeVideo application and how to use them as we upload/import the pictures into the app. We will focus on Media content, how to find “free” Media, and how to use that Media to begin creating a video. We will also learn how to Save our work. Week 2: Week two will focus on learning how to create & modify Backgrounds & Text. We will insert Background Slides into our video, as well as add Text to these slides. We will also focus on Text types and positions of text & how these can add to the overall “finished” product. Students will then discover Transitions & how to use them to create smooth interchanges in their videos. We will learn how to adjust the size/length of pictures & background slides by zooming in and cropping, then we will add in amazing transitions to create more professional-looking videos. Week 3: The first part of Week 3 is all about Sound/Audio. We will discover how to add in audio clips, record audio, or choose from a list of different music or sound effects available through the application. We will also add additional layers to our video, allowing us to manipulate the audio & visual affects with more precise layering. During the second part of our week, students will learn some new techniques as they continue building their Family & Friends Video using the Areas of Focus: Photo Uploads and Arrangement, Size of each picture, Title Creation, Wrap-up/Conclusion Creation. Week 4: During our last week of class, students will continue building their Family & Friends Video as we focus on arranging Backgrounds, Transitions, modifying sizes of each of these, as well as including various layers of text to backgrounds & pictures/images. Let’s Put it All Together! During this last video lesson, students will complete building their Family & Friends Video. Learners will be encouraged to ask questions in our online classroom, as well as help answer the questions from their classmates as they work to finalize their projects. Areas we will focus on today are: Adding in Audio, Music, & Sound Effects. We will Save Video & then Finish the Video. We will work on “flow” in our video, and add fun editing to add to our video production. During this lesson, Students will learn how to choose a WeVideo, pre-made Thumbnail, download their newly-created video & how to share it with their friends & family. Focus will also be on learning how to take their finished product and upload it to YouTube. Learners will share their video with teacher and may choose to share their final video with the class in the Outschool Classroom! We will then turn our focus on learning how to upload a video to a YouTube channel…YAY! The teacher will use a variety of presentation & teaching tools, including daily videos showing teacher walking through each step to take, tools to use, & keyboard short-cuts, as well as demonstrating each step on screen in an easy-to-see & replicate manner. A typed, step-by-step guide will also be provided for each lesson for those who need more explanation. *No prerequisite course or knowledge is necessary. However, due to the necessity of learners to use a computer, a parent should be available if they do not know how to turn it on, use a mouse, or do simple tasks on it. Teacher will be walking them through the basics of how to create a folder to hold all of their images, how to upload, and then use their images to create the video; however, if learner is not at least familiar with using a mouse, computer, or internet, parental assistance may be needed, especially the first week. To other Outschool Teachers: I follow the standards of Outschool, and will report any copying of this course or materials used by the Teacher.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the skills, tools, and applications necessary to create their own, unique video using the WeVideo application. Specifically, the student will learn how to create a folder for images; how to upload/download these images to use as media; how to upload & save work within the application; how to create & modify backgrounds & transitions, as well as add & modify text; how to record audio clips, as well as use music and other audio files; create introductions and conclusion slides; as well as finalize their video, and then download and share their new creation through YouTube.
*These video-creating skills will be invaluable throughout the learners’ life and can be used to create video content which can be shared across a wide range of Social Media, Personal, Education, and other applications.

As we will be creating videos using the Free version of WeVideo, learners will create a login for WeVideo Free Trial with their name, email & password (this happens during our first lesson). We will be learning how to use this application throughout our video-creating class.
YouTube will be used only during the last video lesson, which will show learners how to take their downloaded video and upload it to a YouTube channel. This step is optional, but is shown as it resembles other social media apps and the process of uploading and posting a video.
It is important that students write this information down, or that parents create this account for them so the information is safe & able to be used again for our course.

Welcome to the Space & Tech Learning Emporium where we love all things Space and Technology!
I have been a Business and Computer Applications & Technology teacher for more than 12 years, and have used a variety of video-creating applications during that time. I have used WeVideo for a variety of uses in my educational classes, as well as for numerous advertising campaigns for my own businesses, as an entrepreneur. I have taught students how to use WeVideo for years as it is a simple-to-use video creation tool, and it has been a vital instrument both inside & outside of the classroom for me personally, as a means of allowing others to learn new information in a fun way, and keeping my memories in a fun, professional format. It is such a joy to teach others how to use video-creating applications, such as WeVideo, for their own life too! Come learn with me in our Space & Tech Learning Emporium with Teacher Kristina.
