In this 2 part class, students will be introduced to probability by playing the game Clear the Board through this hands-on, interactive class. I love teaching probability because it shows students a real-life application of fractions. Week 1 - Students will: 1) Play a game involving strategy and finding the sum of 2 - 6 sided dice. 2) Evaluate their game set-up through discussion. 3) Create a frequency graph for the sum of two 6 sided dice. Week 2 - Students will: 1) Calculate...
Students will be able to find a probability of rolling a sum of (any number 2 - 12) with 2 dice, and explain the difference between theoretical and experimental probability.
2 files available upon enrollment1) Two handouts will be provided, which need to be printed out prior to the first class: game board and frequency graph template. 2) Students need to have two, 6 sided dice numbered 1 through 6 or use free e-dice like https://www.random.org/dice/. 3) Students need to have 10 pennies or 10 small objects used as markers in the game (Examples: coins, raisins, unit cubes)
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
