There is no prior experience needed for this class. Your learner will use recycled materials (newspaper, receipts, or junk mail) and a balloon to build a paper-máche sphere and I will encourage your learners to create their own unique design to decorate the Jack-o-lantern. I will guide your learner through each step of the process. Day 1: build a paper máche sphere. Day 2: prep the sphere, design a face and paint. Day 3: add decoupage, glitter, feathers, and handle. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I have been a teacher since 2003. My classes will include informational text reading, science, and seasonal arts.
My career has given me many opportunities, including working in a microbiology lab, working on an organic farm, and teaching sixth-twelfth grade science (biology, earth and space science, and middle grades science). I have taught pottery to young adults with varying needs and own a small pottery business, that branches out to several home decor arts. I am passionate about reading informational texts, really because I didn't learn how to effectively tackle books like that until I was an adult! Now, I love to teach kids how to get the most out of their time staring at informational texts, like science and social studies books, especially if when that student usually says, "Boring!"
As a teacher, the most important thing is to let my students know how much I care that they feel confident and are proud of their work. I always try to stress that more than a teacher, I am their coach leading them through a small portion of their education.
I was a foster mom turned "Mom" and we are currently hoping to adopt another child through foster care. I hope I get to meet you and your learner! (Please feel free to suggest a class.)
