Love to read, be artistic and inventive? Here's your chance to combine all of these talents together and create a working, fully operational game board based on a favorite book. Blank game boards and all supplies should be purchased by the learner's family following the details listed below . Through the 5-day process, rough draft with pencil to final draft, (and computer work is of course welcome), the game will include title, author, genre, crucial settings, main and minor characters,...
Students will combine creativity, higher level thinking, knowledge of a favorite book, ability to write concise details and artistic and computer skills in the creation of a completed game board. This is a challenging class so follow through is essential. Learners will further their understanding of genre, setting details, main characters, themes, conflicts, plot elements and will begin the process through a graphic organizer to organize their thoughts. Learners will also be practicing concise writing skills, vocabulary choice, and editing.
There will be a homework assignment each day, Learners creativity and inventiveness is encouraged and critical to the process. The more unique the game is the better! Day 1 HW: to complete the first draft of the interior of the game board. Day 2: Assignment to complete interior in full illustration and complete the first draft of the 30 game cards Day 3: Complete cards for HW and create the rules for the game, using models from games students have in their homes. Day 4:Complete final copy of rules and first draft of all game board squares for Day 5. Day 5 after class work would be to complete any aspect of the game board that has not been completed.
Please order, as soon as possible, a round framed game board kit number GKT23 from www.barebooks.com $8.75 which includes all supplies for the game. It is essential for the creation of the game. Please bring the actual book to class each day. Please bring art supplies, but there is no need to purchase any extra items. Rulers, pencils ,coloring surprise such as colored pencils or crayons work much better than markers. Stencils, Thin Line black Sharpies are a great asset, but again please don't purchase just for this project. A few rubber bands for the challenge cards is a great help for organization. A couple of glue sticks would be great.
4 hours 35 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
