Class Experience

In this fun and creative one-session 40 minute class, students will learn how to create a digital Valentine using the PicCollage EDU app on their iPad. Students will learn about the various features of this app and how to customize them while creating a digital Valentine with a colorful background, formatted text, and photos and/or stickers. The finished digital Valentine can be printed or emailed/texted to family and friends. PicCollage EDU is an easy app that is perfect to use for educational projects such as digital posters, covers for reports, science fair graphics, book covers, illustrated poetry, and other graphics with text and images.

PicCollage EDU is a paid app ($1.99 US as of 2/8/22) and is rated for ages 4 and above. It was designed specifically for use with children. Please note that you MUST use the EDU version of this app for this class!

Do NOT the free version which has ads, in-app purchases, and is not designed for children.

In this class, students will learn how to:
1) Begin a new PicCollage project.
2) Set a colorful background.
3) Add and customize a text box with a title.
4) Add stickers to decorate.
5) Add photos from their iPad photo album (if desired). Please take or transfer these photos onto your iPad before the class begins!
6) Save the completed collage to the iPad Photo Album. (From there, parents can print, text, or email it)
7) (If time) Create an animated version of their Valentine.
8) (If time) Use a template to design another Valentine.

Students will share their finished project with the teacher/class and will reflect on what they learned, their strengths, and what they would like to learn or improve in their next project.

Please note that for this class, students must have basic English spelling/reading skills and be familiar with typing on an iPad keyboard.

For this class, your student will need:
*An iPad and the most recent paid PicCollage EDU app downloaded in advance onto their iPad:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/piccollage-edu-collage-maker/id977081997
*Note: You must use the PAID EDU version of PicCollage (which is designed for students), NOT the free version!
*Make sure you have the most RECENT version of the app which contains the Valentine stickers!!!
*Please download the app 24 hours in advance to avoid difficulties on the day of the class.
*A separate computer or screen (not the iPad they are using for their collage project) to watch the lesson.
*You will need an internet connection on your iPad to use all the free text styles/stickers (that are included in the app).

I personally have used the PicCollage EDU app on my iPad for many years to make collages and graphics for my lessons in the classroom. I've taught hundreds of students how to use this app to make report covers, digital posters, illustrated stories, greeting cards, and other creative projects. I would love to share what I have learned with new students so they can produce their own amazing digital valentines!
