Class Experience

This class focuses on character design and creative expression through drawing. Students will learn how to transform meaningful objects or beloved pets into unique and imaginative characters. The goal is to explore creativity while strengthening artistic skills in a laid-back and enjoyable environment.

Topics I will cover
	•	Creative thinking and developing original ideas
	•	Exploring shapes, forms, and personalities in characters
	•	Techniques for turning real-world inspiration into art
	•	Research and iteration as part of the creative process

Class structure
The class is structured to be fluid and student-driven:
	1.	Introduction (5-10 mins): Icebreaker and overview of the day’s design prompt.
	2.	Demos and Examples (10-15 mins): I’ll show how to approach the prompt through quick sketches, examples found online, or design tips.
	3.	Creative Exploration (20-30 mins): Students will brainstorm, research, and start designing their characters based on their chosen object or pet.
	4.	Feedback and Sharing (10 mins): Students can share their progress, ask for tips, and get positive, constructive feedback.

How will I teach?

I’ll guide students through a combination of live drawing demos, open discussions, and creative exercises. I encourage exploration and out-of-the-box thinking by providing flexible prompts and showing multiple ways to approach a design. Students will actively participate in research and brainstorming to make their work more personal and meaningful.

Teaching style
My teaching style is relaxed, approachable, and creative. I focus on inspiring students to explore their artistic voice while keeping the atmosphere light and fun. There’s no pressure for perfection—this class is about experimentation and growth. I encourage open dialogue, foster curiosity, and provide feedback in a way that builds confidence.

How much will learners interact with me

Students will interact with me frequently during class at their discretion. I’ll lead discussions, answer questions, and give real-time feedback while they work on their designs. I’ll also encourage sharing ideas and progress to create a collaborative and engaging space. Teaching tools include live demos, visual examples, group discussions, and research activities.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have an extensive educational background in visual arts, starting from my youth at the age of 11. This passion led me to pursue a degree in Animation, where I honed my skills and developed a deeper understanding of cartoons and media. I am particularly enthusiastic about helping students discover and develop their unique artistic voice. My approach focuses on cultivating good art habits, strengthening foundational skills, and fostering growth to give students the confidence and freedom to create.

In terms of teaching experience, I have primarily worked with pre-K students on a voluntary basis, which has given me valuable insights into teaching young children. Beyond that, I’ve found that people of all ages often approach me for artistic guidance, likely because of my nonjudgmental and approachable demeanor. Kids especially seem to connect with my chill energy and the way I treat them with respect and authenticity.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in creating an environment where students feel safe to be themselves while maintaining healthy boundaries. I aim to inspire creativity, curiosity, and self-expression without the need to demand attention or respect—it naturally follows when students feel heard and valued. I’m excited to bring this energy and experience to Outschool to help students grow in their artistic journeys.
