Description
Class Experience
In this One-time, 50-minute class, I will teach students how to create a cardboard loom and then we will weave a small wall tapestry. In this beginner class, I will focus on 3 different weaving techniques: The Under/Over or Tabby weave, the Rya weave to create fringe, and the Soumak weave to create texture. I will have a few slides that will give a visual of the different weaves and an overhead camera to capture what I'm doing as the instructor. We will spend the first 10 minutes of class...
Students will walk away knowing how to do 3 simple weaving techniques that they can then do on any future projects. They will also have a cardboard loom, which they can use over and over again.
I took my first art class when I was in elementary school. Ever since discovering this creative outlet, I continued to take art in high school, college and post-college. I am self-taught in techniques of weaving and tapestry.
8x10 or 8x11 piece of cardboard 12inch ruler Scissors A pencil or pen At least 3 colors of yarn, though you can use more if you wish (Also, if one of your colors is Chucky it helps to add a bit more texture) A stick that is at least 8in long
The purpose of this class is to build confidence in a specific art style. Students are assessed informally. If they feel comfortable, they can show their finished tapestry to the rest of the class.
55 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
