Learning Goals

Pertaining to bats specifically, this class highlights the following Next Generation Science Standards:
LS2.A: Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems
LS2.C: Ecosystem Dynamics, Functioning, and Resilience
Bats are integral to our planet's agriculture and environment because of their predation on insects, pollination, and seed dispersal. Students will come to understand and appreciate human dependence on this widely misunderstood flying mammal. Further they will learn how the bat's anatomy is specialized and how its habits intersect with other organisms including humans.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Bats do not pose a serious threat to humans, but seem to have had this negative image for centuries. One of the goals of this class is to promote a more positive image of bats based on their significant contributions to the environment. In doing so, students are allowed to briefly share their concepts of or encounters with bats if they choose.
Supply List
A Bat Jeopardy Activity Sheet will be provided.
