Summer 2021 class schedule (beginning in June) will be posted in March 2021! This course serves as the third iteration of a four-part crash course in English Language grammar, using the standards described in the 7th Grade Common Core Language Standards. By the end of this course, students will have the skills with which to continue into the final part of the series. In two weeks, this course covers what I would normally spend nine weeks on in my brick and mortar class, so it is fast-paced. Each day's work is designed to review, scaffold, introduce, and quiz students' comprehension of new and old skills. In addition to sixth grade review, this course introduces and covers the following standards: Week 1, Day 1: L.7.4.B Word Study: Roots trans, tempus Week 1, Day 2: L. 7.5.B Analogies Week 1, Day 3: L.7.4.B Word Study: Roots verbum, verto Week 1, Day 4: L.7.4.B Word Study: Prefixes retro, in and L.7.4.B Word Study: Roots arch, cred Week 2, Day 1: L.7.4.B Word Study: Roots epi, geo Week 2, Day 2: L.7.4.B Word Study: Roots gen, min Week 2, Day 3: L.7.4.B Word Study: Suffixes ward, ish Week 2, Day 4: L.7.4.B Word Study: Roots mis, phon This course is discussion-based. I strive to guide students to the correct answers, rather than simply lecture at them. Participation is key and helps to ensure retention of skills. This is the third iteration in a four-part series, so Part 1 and 2 are enouraged, but not required.
Learning Goals
By the end of this course, students will be able to use the relationship between particular words (e.g., synonym/antonym, analogy) to better understand each of the words and use common, grade-appropriate Greek or Latin affixes and roots as clues to the meaning of a word.

Hello!
I'm originally from the Bay Area in California, but moved to the North State for college and (so far) haven't left! I have a Bachelor's degree in English Education and a Master's degree in English with a focus on Language and Literacy, as well as teaching credentials in both English and Social Studies. I've spent the last seven years teaching English to students ranging in age from grade 7 through grade 12.
My favorite thing about teaching is watching a student fall in love with the same things I’m passionate about or watching them finally “get” something they’ve been struggling with. I’m excited about Outschool because there are so many things I’m passionate about that don’t necessarily “fit” into a mainstream school setting.
Outside of school, I have two dogs: Ollie, a majority Pit Bull/Chihuahua mix (that was quite a shock after getting a DNA test plus the 13 other breeds), and Navi, another supermutt including 2% "wild canid" - my husband excitedly thought that meant she's part wolf. In California, it likely means coyote. They're complete opposite personalities but love playing with each other!
I look forward to seeing you in some of my classes!
