Learners will learn to draw a number of textures with the help of various reference images of animals. We will then use those textures and a collection of animal parts to create an entirely new creature. Using your imagination and thinking outside the box will be encouraged. We will create basic backstories for our creature about how they came to be or why they have certain characteristics. Learners will be instructed on light and shadow and how to add depth and colour to our monsters. Lastly we will complete our monster with a name for its species.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to draw different textures, the importance of finding reference in nature, as well as the basics of light and shadow. Students will also make connections about why certain animals (or monsters) are built the way they are.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am Deanna from Mississauga, Ontario!
I am a lifelong learner with an interest in all areas of the arts, logic and philosophy.
I studied theatre & film at McMaster University where I enjoyed designing costumes, writing scripts working with lights and props and analyzing films.
I took elective courses in art and music history and minored in philosophy. I always enjoy a solid debate! Listening to all perspectives and questioning everything you think you know are extremely important to how I operate and teach.
After graduating I continued on to OCAD University where I majored in illustration. I work mostly in oil paint and create whimsical and often bizarre surrealist paintings. You will find me at Art shows and markets throughout the year.
I grew up drawing and playing the piano. I completed my grad 8 piano, music theory and history with the Royal Conservatory of Music and I am a full-time private piano teacher.
In my spare time you'll find me playing board games, solving logic puzzles or creating orchestral compositions.
I absolutely love to learn and believe there is always something new to discover. If only there was more time! I hope I can inspire my students to feel as passionate about learning as I do!
