In this interactive and incredibly educational three-part course, your teen will learn how to craft compelling, concise, and authentic personal essays for college admissions from an accomplished Harvard graduate.

Class experience

US Grade 9 - 12
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn 4 key "how" skills and 3 key "why" areas of understanding during this highly valuable week-long course: 

- HOW to discover what to write about even when your student feels like they have "nothing worth putting on paper."
- HOW to configure one type of basic essay-writing building blocks. 
- HOW to improve on their own work.
- HOW to draft a powerful personal essay.
- WHY crafting a compelling personal essay is such an important skill to develop.
- WHY mastery of personal story-telling is a life-long skill that takes continual honing and practice.
- WHY practice is critical to improving writing skills.
Ms. Rena graduated from Harvard with honors. She has many years of experience working with teens on improving their mastery of college preparatory success subjects, with essay writing skills being chief among them.
Homework Offered
After the first session, there will be a homework assignment. This will involve a structured approach to practicing their newly-acquired personal journey self-reflection skills. Students are expected to complete this on their own for a duration of 30-60 minutes. After the second session, another homework assignment will be assigned. Students are expected to complete this on their own for 30-90 minutes. This will involve writing their own outline and/or draft of an essay. Your student will have the option of sharing their work during the final class. Sharing will be completely optional.

All that your student will need to complete their homework is:
- A quiet space to reflect and write
- Pen/paper or equivalent
Students will be asked to consider things like life challenges they have experienced. This will be for the purposes of pre-essay self-reflection. It is NOT mandatory to share anything they don't want to share with the class. Remember to keep private info private.
