If we are adding Dr. Seuss to this lesson, it has to be fun and exciting! We will explore the story "Oh, The Places You'll Go!" written by Dr. Seuss. Together as a group, we will begin to recognize many different rhyming words including words that have similar and different spellings. We will focus on listening to the ending sounds of many words. We will read through the story and use a fun "stop" card that each child can hold up as they hear the rhyming words in the story. Then, the children will work on a hot air balloon craft that corresponds with the story. I will ask the students what they would like to do when they grow up and we will write this "goal/ambition" on the hot air balloon craft. If time allows, I will ask the students a few rhyming riddles as we close the class. This class will be engaging and grab the children's attention as we recognize the fun rhyming words. I hope to see you soon!
Learning Goals
The students will be able to recognize rhyming words with and without the same spelling.
