Class Experience

How adorable is this adorable origami rabbit? It is easily folded with unique but easy-to-make folds. Now I'm excited to guide students step-by-step to make their own. There's no experience needed for this but even seasoned paper crafters will find this to be a fun and engaging project.

*Discount! Invite a friend or join a class with students already enrolled! Multi-learner classes will be discounted from the listed price (upon request).
**Please bring at least one sheet of paper that is a square with four equal sides. Also, bring something to draw or color with to add the face.

While there is a ton of fun in this class, it's full of learning too! We'll identify squares, triangles, and circles and how one shape can be folded into another shape. I will quiz them with fun questions throughout class - so have their thinking caps on!

In addition, we'll practice origami techniques including lining up edges, finding where a fold should go, and pressing down so a fold stays in place. Students also learn about common origami folds (judgment folds and mountain vs valley folds) that are often found in origami pattern instructions. And I do hope that my students are inspired to seek out more origami patterns after class because there are so many to explore.

The final part is my favorite. Each student gets to draw their rabbit's own face details (eyes, nose, and mouth) to make their bunny uniquely their own. They can let their creativity shine! If they are not comfortable drawing their own, I can guide them on how to do that part as well. The only materials needed are a marker for drawing the face and a square sheet of paper (it's good to have extra in case you want to start over or make more than one).

Hello everyone!
If you see a class you like but the time doesn't work, I'm happy to work with your schedule. Even if you are in a different time zone or my automatic availability isn't open at a certain time, reach out and there is a good chance I can make something work for you.

A bit about me and my teaching style:
I am passionate about art and creativity. Even more so, I love to inspire that in others. It's not about talent or skills you were born with, it's all about expressing yourself and growing your talent through practice and guidance. I believe everyone has the ability to create masterpieces and should have the freedom to find their own way of making them. I teach with a step-by-step demonstration approach while encouraging students to do it their own way whenever they feel ready to do so. This approach allows for wonderfully blended classes where the less experienced or shy learners can follow along with me and the bolder ones can work in their own way alongside us. Either way, we all end up with unique art we can be proud of and improved knowledge about the art/craft process we are practicing.

My classes are designed to be highly interactive and engaging with questions & answers throughout as well as hands-on activities. Be sure to check the supply list for each class because learners get the best experience when they are ready to learn with every material needed for the class.

In addition to my bachelor's degree in biology, I have a Graphic Arts certificate which I earned from Autry Technology Center. I earned 1st place in state (Oklahoma) and 6th nationally in the 2001 National Skills USA Championship competition in graphic communications. I teach the arts of drawing and painting to adults online on a voluntary basis. I also teach arts and crafts to children as a professional online and as a volunteer in person.
I have over 3 years of online teaching experience with students 4-17 years old. I have also worked with children in person in a variety of settings from my current position as a children's church leader to volunteering in afterschool care for at-risk children.
