Homework
Each week, by Wednesday evening (9pm PST),- -I will email each student a link that weeks lecture. This will be on YouTube and is in a private account. -I will post to the classroom a list of 3-7 questions due the following Saturday. -There will also be a list of 2-5 research topics or projects, and each student will choose one that interests them. These can be writing a short (1 paragraph) research topic, watching a video, interviewing someone, or even conducting an experiment.

Welcome to women in History! Come and join us for the next 12 week as we learn about some of the most incredible women from history! We will examine the time period that they lived in, their childhoods and influences, and what impact they had on history. 


Each week, by Wednesday evening (9pm PST) -

-I will email each student a link that weeks lecture and assignments. This will be on YouTube and is in a private account that is embedded into the Outschool classroom page.  
-  Assignments will consist of discussion and essay questions, short research topics, Youtube videos, and worksheets. These will be posted on the classroom page. 
- In my flex classes, each family can determine the level of participation in the course. 
- Communication will be done through the Outschool classroom.  
-I will check in with each student several times during the week to check on progress of the homework, address any questions, or to engage in a discussion about the topic covered. Each student is encouraged to message (through the Outschool classroom) me anytime they have any questions or thoughts about the class.  
- Each week, there may be additional articles, videos, or pictures that will be posted to the classroom page to engage students in open conversations about that weeks topic.

During each of these classes we will explore a brief biography of different women in history, their life, the society and culture that shaped them, and what contributions they made in their field. We will discuss how their lives would be different if they had been born in different times and cultures and what shaped them into achieving their goals.


Week 1 –  Carrie Chapman Catt – American suffrage leader
Week 2 –  Penelope Barker – activist during the American Revolution
Week 3 – Dolores Huerta – cofounder of the National Farmworkers Association
Week 4 – Florence Kelley – Social reformer for minimum wage, 8 hour work days, and children’s rights
Week 5 – Fannie Lou Hammer – American voting and women’s rights activist, leader in the civil rights movement
Week 6 –  Ruth Bader Ginsberg – Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the U.S.
Week 7 –  Margaret E. Knight – American inventor
Week 8 – Elsie Macgill – Canadian aeronautical engineer
Week 9 – Fe del Mundo – first woman admitted to Harvard Medical School
Week 10 – Mary Anning – English palaeontologist in the 1800’s
Week 11 – Euphemia Haynes – first African-American to earn PhD in mathematics
Week 12 –  Julia Morgan – American architect


This class is just a brief look into these amazing women. If you are intrigued and would like to learn more, please check out my other classes, Great Personalities from History. We will take 8 weeks to explore more in depth the lives and history surrounding each of these women individually.

Parental Guidance
In this class, we will cover many different events in history. Any topic of a sensitive nature (discrimination, sexism, racism) will be handled in an age appropriate manner. This class will utilize Youtube videos for sharing of lecture videos, as well as supplemental lessons. All Youtube videos are embedded into the Outschool platform. This class may also utilize Kahoot. Learners will be given a direct link and game pin to play.

I have been an educator on Outschool since February of 2018. I have my MBA and MHA, both of which have taught me the value of conducting research and asking questions.  I have a passion for history, organization, reading, and learning. You can usually find me in the middle of 2-3 books or watching a documentary.
