It can be hard to navigate challenges when you are young. Understanding that courage means to keep trying even when things seem hard or scary can be helpful when trials arise. In this 3 day camp, students will learn what courage is, how to show courage, and practice using courage in multiple scenarios. We will be coloring, discussing, dancing, writing, and reading stories to help us understand and practice different aspects of courage. Topics discussed in this class include: how courage can be shown through big or small actions, how to handle worries, growth mindset, comfort zones, and how to strengthen our courage muscles. Day 1: What is Courage? We will have a discussion about what the word "courage" means and the different kinds of courage. We will read the story "Brave Like Me" by Christine Peck and Mags Deroma. We will review what courage could look like in our day to day lives and complete a worksheet to review. Day 2: How Can I Show Courage? We will begin by reading the book "Jonathan James and the Whatif Monster" by Michelle Nelson-Schmidt. We will complete a worksheet about worries and discuss what growth mindset is and how it can help us be courageous when we have worries. We will complete a folding coloring sheet that lists different ways of how we can show courage and receive instruction for our Courage Characters activity for day 3. Day 3: Practice Being Brave Our final day begins with an object lesson showing the power of practicing bravery. We will discuss what a comfort zone is and why it can be helpful to push ourselves outside our comfort zone. We will then review different scenarios and discuss how we can show courage within these circumstances. We will each share the Courage Characters that we created and then end our camp by coloring our Bravery Badges.
