In this 2 day camp, learners will learn tips and tricks to "survive" in their upcoming world of middle school. Learning will occur through hands on learning and teacher facilitated discussion. Class experience
This class will cover tips and tricks to middle school survival. Over the course of this 2 day camp, students will learn: -how to unlock a combination lock -tips for organizing their locker (using a color coding system) -schedule organization (lots of classes in middle school, big adjustment from elementary!) -how to use a planner -relationships with teachers and peers/joining clubs There will also be Q & A time for students that have particular questions that haven't been answered in...
This class is taught in English.
Over the course of the 2 day camp, students will learn how to unlock a combination lock, tips for locker & material organization, how to manage their new class schedule, using a planner, time management, and how to navigate relationships with new teachers and peers.
As a former 6th grade science teacher of 3 years, I have experience helping incoming middle schoolers adjust to their new "world". I have also taught elementary school, so I know what these rising middle schoolers have experienced in the elementary setting- and middle school can be a HUGE adjustment. Common things I heard from my 6th graders during their first week in middle school included: "How do I unlock my locker?! How do I know where my classes are?! WHEN DO I USE THE BATHROOM?! I can't find my homework! My locker is a mess! How do I join a club?!" While the answers to these questions do vary from school to school- the universal procedures are pretty standard, and I would LOVE to help your student head into middle school feeling prepared and confident with a "toolbox of tips" to help them succeed.
1 file available upon enrollment1. printed or downloaded guided notes (attached) 2. a combination lock DETAILS ON SUPPLIES BELOW: A one page handout of guided notes (fill in the blank) will be attached. Please download or print before class. Students may use this handout with a pen or pencil to take notes on the class discussions. Students also need to bring a combination lock to class if they are interested in one of the most valuable parts of the course, unlocking a combination lock/practicing unlocking a lock quickly if they already know how. (Even if this won't be their school issued locker lock, it will be helpful for practicing.)
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
