Class
Lisa Greenhut
Average rating:4.9Number of reviews:(409)
Ancient people from many cultures told stories about the stars and described constellations that scientists still refer to today. Learn all about constellations and make a 3-D model of the Big Dipper!

Class experience

Students will define what a constellation is and name some examples from the night sky that is visible to them.
Students will explain how the view of the sky changes during the year as a result of Earth's revolution around the Sun.
Students will discuss how ancient people used the night sky for navigation, keeping track of seasons, and storytelling.
Students will create a model of the Big Dipper that represents the relative distance of its stars.
I teach this content at the American Museum of Natural History and greatly enjoy sharing my love of astronomy with students!
Students will be making a 3-D model of the Big Dipper asterism.
