We will be examining corruption and corruption reform. We will start by defining and explaining the concept. Because the word 'corruption' has multiple uses and can mean different things to different people, I will introduce and explain, using examples, the most widely established academic usage of the term. We will then discuss the many ways in which it is known to hinder countries. We will look at the history of corruption reform, spending some time on successful corruption reform programs...
Students will learn what corruption is, what its effects are, and the recent history of corruption reform.
My Ph.D. dissertation was on corruption reform in highly corrupt countries. Additionally, I worked on contract as a 'senior knowledge manager' with NATO, where I published multiple articles on corruption in crisis areas such as Afghanistan.
We will be referencing the international anti-corruption NGO, Transparency International.
