Cornell Notes is a strategy that allows students to not only take notes but to pull out keywords and information as well as summarize the notes that they have taken. Each week the students will learn to use the Cornell Note format to take notes no matter the method of delivery. We will focus on pulling out the important information that was learned and how to properly summarize the entire lesson. Taking notes is an important life skill for students to learn, this still will carry through into adulthood. During the first class, I will introduce what Cornell Notes are and I will show the students how to set up their physical paper or computer notes. We will practice how to take notes and as well as pulling out the most important information and keywords. Lastly, we will practice summering the notes so that students can just read the summary and get an idea of what was learned. In the following weeks, we will focus on different ways that information may be presented to the students and we will practice how to use the Cornell Notes format to take notes on each of the formats. At the end of the 4th week, the students will be given homework that is based on their reading level and interest. The students will come to the final class sharing how they took notes on assigned homework, the students will share their note-taking skills, they summary skills, as well as practice public speaking. Week 1- Introduction to Cornell Notes- Basic paper and computer set up, discussion on why it is important to take notes, and the importance of staying organized. A KWL chart will be started to help guide the lessons. Week 2- Using Cornell Notes when reading independently and when reading infographics. The gradual release method will be used when teaching (I do, We do, You do). Week 3- Using Cornell Notes when listening to a live lecture (or a Zoom lecture). The gradual release method will be used when teaching (I do, We do, You do). Week 4- Using Cornell Notes when watching assigned videos or audio assignments. The gradual release method will be used when teaching (I do, We do, You do). *Homework will be given to the students this week (based on interest and reading level each student will be given a different assignment to read/watch/listen to and to take Cornell Notes to share with the class during our final class.) Week 5- Students will each share their homework with the class. As a class we will review the importance of organized note-taking, students can share how they have used Cornell Notes in their actual classes in school. Together we will wrap up the KWL chart.

Teacher expertise and credentials
This is my 19th year of teaching and for the past 10 years, I have always worked with 8th-grade students across my school district to share the Cornell Notes format. It is so important for students to learn how to take organized notes at an early enough age so that when they get to high school and college they feel prepared to study on their own.
