In this course, we will closely read the novel "Coraline." Students will also be given activities to complete for each chapter. Each activity reinforces skills that are common in English Language Arts classrooms. Skills covered include: figurative language, critical thinking, cause and effect, summarizing, plot diagram, character traits, and much more!! Here is the course breakdown: Week 1- Introduction. Students will be able to use critical thinking skills to analyze various elements of a novel. Students will be able to engage and openly discuss complex ideas and elements that are presented in the text. Students will be able to use a variety of skills to identify and describe literary elements such as figurative language, summarization, mood, POV, etc.
If we are unable to complete the activity at the time of the course, students will be expected to complete the activity independently and come to the next class prepared to discuss their responses. Activities should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete and are not graded.
