Description
Class Experience
As a followup class to coping with my Big Emotions, this class allows students to expand on their strategies and use music to help calm themselves when they feel those big emotions. Students will learn songs, sing together, and discuss how music and songs can bring them back to the "green" emotions that feel good. Using kid-friendly songs, some of which have lyrics that are shifted for our purposes, we practice our calm-down strategies.
Students will learn strategies to help them cope with big emotions. Using strategies set to music and breathing exercises, students will be able to utilize these songs and strategies to help themselves become more competent with emotional regulation.
Having taught for 26 years in the field of special education, I recognize the number of students who need a little more help with their emotional regulation. I have worked with hundreds of students who have taught me so much about how to help children in this area.
Practice strategies and songs with parents.
Songs will be sent out before the first class.
Pre and post parent checklist.
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
