1 hour per week. Students will receive chess puzzle sheets to be printed out. The chess puzzle sheets will be discussed in class to make sure all students understand how to solve them.Assessment
A learner is assessed by understanding the answers on each chess puzzle sheet and knowing how to checkmate to win their games. When a student practices chess at home with others, or on-line, their skills will increase--this will reflect in their knowledge of the game.Class Experience

Intermediate Level
The students will be learning about the Discovered Attack--a powerful Chess Tactic. A Tactic is a trap that a player sets to win pieces or to get a better position on the board. The students will learn that in a Discovered Attack, when a piece is moved out of the way, there can be an attack from another piece behind it. They will also learn that a Double Check can occur against a King when the piece that is in front of another piece moves out of the way and both pieces are putting the King into check. In this situation, if the King cannot move out of the way, then it is checkmate.
Learning Goals
The students will become stronger chess players as they learn how to master Discovered Attacks and Double Checks.

Parental Guidance
We will be using the lichess.org website for students to play chess games on-line. The students will be copying the game link and pasting it in the Zoom Chat Box for other students to click on and access the game. Usernames and passwords to lichess.org will not be used for this class.
Supply List
Students should have a pencil in class and the chess puzzles printed out, which will be attached in a PDF form in the Classroom.
