The students will learn how to force a stalemate, which is an important defensive strategy. This lesson will teach the students how to look for a stalemate opportunity when they are in a losing position in their game. The students will recognize that their King has no possible moves, but not in check, and that they have one other piece that will attack their opponent's King, causing it to be captured. The students will become stronger chess players as they learn how to force a stalemate and by playing chess games on-line.
Homework Offered
Students will receive chess puzzle sheets to be printed out. The chess puzzle sheets will be discussed in class to make sure all students understand how to solve them.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
A learner is assessed by understanding the answers on each chess puzzle sheet and knowing how to checkmate to win their games. When a student practices chess at home with others, or on-line, their skills will increase--this will reflect in their knowledge of the game.Grades Offered

We will be using the lichess.org website for students to play chess games on-line. The students will be copying the game link and pasting it in the Zoom Chat Box for other students to click on and access the game. Usernames and passwords to lichess.org will not be used for this class.
ChessKid.com is an additional resource that can help the students to improve their chess skills. This website provides Chess Puzzles, practice against chess bots, and informative videos which are made by Grand Masters.
