Description

Class Experience

The student's chess skills will continue to improve with more knowledge about the game, learning the rules and learning more checkmates. They will strengthen their game even more by playing against other students or the teacher on-line via the lichess.org website.
Students will receive chess curriculum and a chess puzzle homework sheet to be printed out. The chess puzzle homework sheet will be discussed in the last few minutes of class to make sure all students understand what to do. At the beginning of the next class, we will go over the homework to check for understanding.
 17 files available upon enrollment
Students should have a pencil with an eraser in class and a folder to keep all their chess curriculum and homework puzzles together.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
A learner is assessed by understanding the answers on each chess puzzle assignment and knowing how to checkmate to win their games. When a student practices chess at home with others, or on-line, their skills will increase--this will reflect in their knowledge of the game.
4 hours per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
The students will be using the lichess.org website to practice various checkmates and to play games against each other or the teacher. This is a FREE site for students to access to improve their chess skills. ChessKid.com is also a great resource for students to access daily Chess Puzzles, to play chess against the computer, or against other students around the world. There are videos on this site that the students can watch, done by Grand Masters, who can really help the student achieve a higher skill level in chess.
