The students will learn what a Perpetual Check is and that it is an important defensive strategy. This lesson will teach the students how to look for an opportunity to do a Perpetual Check against their opponent when they are in a losing position. The students will see if they have a piece that will be able to put their opponent's King into Check. When their opponent's King moves out of check, the student will observe if they can put their opponent's King into check again, causing both players then to repeat the same 3 moves over and over. This forces a Draw by repetition, giving both players one half of a point, which is better than losing the game. At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to play chess against other Outschool students, or the teacher, on the lichess.org website.
Learning Goals
The students will become stronger chess players as they learn how to force a draw game by a Perpetual Check and by playing chess games on-line.

The student will be using the lichess.org website to practice various checkmates and to play games against other students or the teacher. This is a FREE site for students to access and to improve their chess skills. ChessKid.com is also a great resource for students to access daily Chess Puzzles, to play chess against the computer, or against other students around the world. There are videos on this site that the students can watch, done by Grand Masters, who can really help the student achieve a higher skill level in chess.

I am a retired public school teacher of 26 years and currently am a Supervisor of Academic Programming for the Central New York Chess organization on Outschool (https://outschool.com/teachers/CENTRAL-NY-CHESS-INC?usid=wUq7nkLS&signup=true&authTrigger=follow_teacher&follow=true&utm_campaign=share_leader_link). I have taught children and adults in Beginning and Intermediate 1 Chess classes for 23 years in after school programs, summer Chess Camps, online in my Cool Chess classes and now for Central New York Chess. I love to see how Chess helps the brain to think, to make predictions, to sequence, see patterns, etc. I love to see when a student learns how to checkmate and improves upon their game! I teach One Time Cool Chess classes and Private and Multi-Day Classes with Central New York Chess. I enjoy Art, Chess, Scrapbooking, and Travel! I hope to see you in my chess classes soon!
