Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn to manage time while cooking. Students will learn to balance cooking multiple items (main dish and side dishes). Students will learn to follow a recipe. Students will learn ways to use fresh ingredients to make great dishes.
Week 1: Cinnamon Rolls and Breakfast Casserole Ingredients: Breakfast Casserole: 1 lb Breakfast sausage, 6 Eggs, 1 crescent roll tube (8oz), 2 cups Cheddar cheese Cinnamon Rolls: 2 1/2 cups Self-Rising flour, 1/2 cup Brown sugar, packed, 3 tsp Cinnamon, 7 tbsp Granulated sugar, white, 1 cup Powdered sugar, 1 tsp Vanilla, 8 tbsp Butter, 1 1/4 cup Buttermilk, 1 tbsp Milk Supplies: Casserole Dish, skillet, spatula, baking sheet, cooking spray Week 2: Garlic Bread Pizza, Salad and Spaghetti Ingredients: 1 can of Pizza/marinara/spaghetti sauce, Toppings (pepperoni, sausage, etc...whatever you like), 1 Garlic toast, frozen, 1 8oz package of shredded Mozzarella cheese. 1 Head of lettuce (romaine or iceberg...or both if you like), Items you like on your salad (cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots for example) Salad Dressing ingredients: 1 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 1/2 cup white Vinegar, 1/3 cup Water, 2 cloves Garlic fresh preferred, but you could sub with dried if needed (use about a 1/2 teaspoon for dried), 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano, 1 teaspoon Dried Basil, 1/4 cup Fresh Parsley, 1 pinch Red Pepper Flakes, 1 teaspoon Kosher Salt more or less to taste, 1/4 teaspoon Pepper. Spaghetti Supplies: Pot for spaghetti, slotted spoon, baking sheet, aluminum foil, cooking spray, large bowl for salad, knife for chopping salad ingredients. Week 3: Creamy Tomato Tortellini Soup Ingredients: 2 whole Large Cloves Of Garlic Minced, 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil, 2 cans 10 3/4 Oz Cans Of Condensed Tomato Soup, Two Tablespoons Of Sun Dried Tomato Paste, 1-½ cup Milk, 2 cups Half-and-half 2 cups Chicken Stock, 1 teaspoon Onion Powder, ½ teaspoons Salt, ½ teaspoons Pepper 2 teaspoons Italian Seasoning, 1 whole 9 Oz Package Of Cheese Filled Tortellini, ½ cups Shredded Parmesan Cheese. Optional: Pair soup with baguette bread or garlic bread. Supplies: Large soup pot. large spoon for stirring, cheese grater Week 4: Black Berry Cobbler with Vanilla Icecream Ingredients: 3 cups blackberries, 1 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, 1 cup Self-Rising flour, 1 Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, 1 2 cup unsalted butter, unsalted, 1 1/2 cups Whole milk, 1/2 cup whipping cream, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 3/4 cup kosher salt, 2 cups ice, 1-quart zip-top bag, 1-gallon zip-top bag Supplies: 9 in round baking dish, ice cream scoop, large bowl
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parents should be present to assist students as needed and to be available in case of a kitchen accident or emergency.
