There is no formal assessment, but the end of each class I will give my feedback on the dish they made.Class Experience
If you have ever seen the show Chopped or Guy's Grocery Games, this course is a mix of the two. This class is to bring out the creativity of cooking in each learner. Children will be asked to find 5 food items in their house that are not looking as fresh as when they bought it or that they think would pair well together. Some weeks there will be a challenge item they will have to cook with, but otherwise it is with food you already have in your house. The first five minutes of class, they will all decide what they can make with those 5 food items whether it is a dessert, breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even just a snack. Then, I will give them direction of how to make that specific dish. They will be able to show each other how their meal came out and decide if it is something they would like to make again. Most important is to teach children to have confidence that you can never mess up in the kitchen, and every individual has a different style of cooking. I will engage learners and make them feel comfortable to have discussions with each other about what they are deciding to make as well as what their likes and dislikes are in the kitchen. We will go over safety and specific strategies to use to manage time in the kitchen as well. Learners will be interacting the entire time of this course. It is not mandatory for learners to have any knowledge about cooking or food. I will teach while we play this awesome cooking challenge game! As the daughter of a culinary chef, I started cooking anything and everything at the young age of 4. Finding that passion in cooking, has allowed me to love every type of food, and has taught me not to be a picky eater. One of the most important lessons is to not be afraid to cook with unusual or different ingredients. My goal is to teach learners to be creative, and have courage to try new foods.
