I encourage kids to have a hands-on learning experience with my cooking classes. I would love for them to cook step by step with me so they gain the knowledge and experience while being able to taste their end product each and every class. My teaching style is a positive reinforcement style, where I encourage questions and comments. My classes are made to be fun and engaging. They will gain confidence in the kitchen and learn life skills on how to stay safe in the kitchen while preparing...
Kids will learn safety around the kitchen and how to properly read and understand following a recipe while preparing a delicious recipe that is guaranteed to impress. We will work on measurements, cooking terms, and why following directions while cooking is imperative. We will talk about knife skills, safety around working with raw meat as well as how to work on a stovetop.
I have been working as a kids enrichment teacher for the last 5 years. I love teaching children and allowing them to create and think outside the box. I have an 11-year-old son who is on the Autism Spectrum, so am a very patient and understanding teacher. I realize all children learn differently and it is imperative to really listen to each child in order for them to feel secure and safe.
3 tablespoons unsalted butter Olive oil 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour 2 cups half and half 1/3 cup pam cheese Pinch of Salt Pinch freshly ground nutmeg 1 package of oven-ready no-boil lasagna noodles 1 package shredded mozzarella 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 pound ground beef (85% lean) ¼ tsp salt 1/2 cup chopped carrot 1/2 cup finely chopped onion 3 cloves garlic, chopped 1 teaspoon tomato paste 2 teaspoons all-purpose flour 1 1/2 cups canned chopped tomatoes, with their juices 1 cup beef stock or water 1/2 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano SUPPLIES 8 x 8 pan knife and cutting board 2 saucepans, 2 bowls Measuring spoons and cup whisk, spatula
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Safety is the number one priority when in the kitchen. The students will learn proper knife skills and how to safely handle and use a knife. There will be times when we will be using the stove and it is imperative that the children are safe and have an adult nearby to oversee them during those times. I will be sure to go over how we work around a stove and proper safety measures when cooking on a stove. I will also touch on food safety when handling raw meat as well as how to correctly open a pot when there is a lot of steam.
