Class Experience

Kids will learn safety around the kitchen and how to properly read and understand following a recipe while preparing a delicious recipe that is guaranteed to impress. We will work on measurements, cooking terms, and why following directions while cooking is imperative.  We will talk about knife skills, safety working with raw meat as well as how to work on a stovetop.
I have been working as a kids enrichment teacher for the last 5 years.  I love teaching children and allowing them to create and think outside the box.  I have an 11-year-old son who is on the Autism Spectrum, so am a very patient and understanding teacher.  I realize all children learn differently and it is imperative to really listen to each child in order for them to feel secure and safe.
1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into approximately 1-inch cubes ( well do this in class) 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil 3 cloves of garlic, minced 2 teaspoons dried oregano 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley 1/2 teaspoon coriander 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt 1/8 teaspoon black pepper TZATZIKI SAUCE 2 cup grated English cucumber 1 1/2 cups plain non-fat Greek yogurt 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill 1 teaspoon garlic 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint 2 tablespoons of olive oil 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt Black pepper to taste SUPPLIES Knife, cutting board, spoon Measuring cups and spoons Skewers Garlic press Skillet/ grill pan Plate and 2 bowls Oven grater
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Safety is the number one priority when in the kitchen.  The students will learn proper knife skills and how to safely handle and use a knife.  There will be times when we will be using the stove and it is imperative that the children are safe and have an adult nearby to oversee them during those times. I will be sure to go over how we work around a stove and proper safety measures when cooking on a stove. I will also touch on food safety when handling raw meat as well as how to  safely work at a hot stove when grilling.
